Do I need a passport to travel to Mexico?
For travel between the United States and
Mexico prior to DECEMBER of 2006...
If you are a US citizen and you are traveling between the US and Mexico
PRIOR to December 31, 2006, you do NOT need a passport to enter Mexico and to
re-enter the United States. You do need a certified copy of your birth
certificate and a government issued photo I.D. if you are not traveling with a
passport.
A certified copy of your birth certificate may be obtained from the Department of Health in the state in which you were born. Most departments will have a web site that can easily be found by doing a search on the internet for "your state" department of health. These sites will have a section on obtaining a birth certificate.
An acceptable government issued photo I.D. would be a valid driver's license.
